Addressing Patrik Schick's absence from full team training over the last three days, both Bayer 04 Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes and head-coach Xabi Alonso have admitted that the struggling striker is debating whether or not to undergo further surgery for his persistent groin problems.

An absolutely disastrous season for Czech striker Patrik Schick could potentially get much worse. The 26-year-old - limited to just 11 league appearances due to minor ailments over the course of the season - has also been absent from full team training during Leverkusen's recent mini-camp.

Head-coach Xabi Alonso and B04 sporting director Simon Rolfes have both admitted that, despite a one-month break from the game, the once prolific striker continues to be plagued by persistent groin issues; the same ones for which he underwent surgery during the offseason.

"It's hame because we wanted him to be  need him, but his condition is not ideal," said Xabi recently remarked about Schick, "he doesn't feel fully fit to train. We will see what decision to make."

"We will have further examinations carried out this week to find the right path for Patrik," Rolfes added, "we will do everything possible to ensure that he is fit for action [on January 22nd] against Gladbach."

After scoring 24 league goals last season, Schick has only netted three tallies across all competitions this year. His absence contributed mightily to the team's slow start and, under the new trainer Xabi, the Czech international has only been available for five of the Spaniard's competitive fixtures.
