Benjamin Hübner retires from football

Benjamin Hübner has been forced to retire from football due to persistent injury problems.
Hoffenheim captain Benjamin Hübner retires from football with immediate effect, the Bundesliga outfit have announced.

The 33-year-old centre-back has made the decision after a series of injuries and careful consideration.

"It doesn't work anymore," Hübner is quoted as saying by Hoffenheim.

Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen commented:

"'Benni' is a huge personality, which we will miss on the pitch, but we have already had concrete conversations as to how we can involve him here once he finishes playing."

Hübner made a total of 103 appearances for Hoffenheim, racking up nine goals and 11 assists.

He also played for Wehen Wiesbaden, VfR Aalen and Ingolstadt through is career.
