Bobic on DFB rumors: "One can never rule anything out in football."
Speaking at a media roundtable on Wednesday afternoon, Hertha BSC sporting CEO Fredi Bobic emphasized that he felt comfortable in his current club administrative role.
The 51-year-old nevertheless gave evasive answers as to whether he might consider coming on board with the German FA as a potential replacement for the departed Oliver Bierhoff.
In his first public comments since being linked with a DFB administrative job, Hertha sporting CEO Fredi Bobic stressed that he was "exceptionally comfortable" in his current role leading the front office of Germany's Charlottenburg capital city side. Despite the fact that the long-time German footballing executive sought to distance himself from the rumors, Bobic also didn't rule out a change.
The 51-year-old nevertheless gave evasive answers as to whether he might consider coming on board with the German FA as a potential replacement for the departed Oliver Bierhoff.
"In theory, there are many things you can consider," Bobic noted, "and in football you can never rule anything out. I still wasn't eager for my name to crop up. I'm not looking for a job. I'm very happy here."
"I find the current dynamics interesting," he continued, "Names are raised and I take note of that, but my focus is completely different at the moment."
Bobic praised the work of the departed DFB managing director Oliver Bierhoff and did take the opportunity to advise the German FA "not to take too long" in procuring a replacement. He nevertheless again turned the focus back to his current club, offering up comments on Hertha's 1-0 win over Eintracht Braunschweig in their final test fixture before the Christmas break.
Bobic called the victory a "morale booster" that signaled the club was "headed in the right direction". Hertha also confirmed a transaction immediately after the match. Eighteen-year-old center-halve Linus Gechter will spend the rest of the season on loan at Braunschweig. The Berlin native is expected back in the summer after a short-term loan with no purchase option.
"Linus is a top talent with us," Bobic said in commenting on the deal, "At the age of 18, he has already proven what potential he has. With this loan, we want to enable him to develop further through playing time in the second division. That's the most important thing at that age. We are then looking forward to seeing him again in the summer."
