Why Timo Werner would be the perfect fit for Liverpool

By Bulinews Team

Timo Werner would fit in perfectly at Liverpool, argues tactics expert Constantin Eckner who doesn't think the RB Leipzig striker would be a good fit for Bayern München.

RB Leipzig star Timo Werner has been linked with an number of clubs - including Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Chelsea. But what would be the best fit for the German international?

According to tactics expert Constantin Eckner, the 22-year-old would most likely do very well as a striker in Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp's system.

Mohamed Salah often plays up top for 'The Reds', and if Liverpool succeed in signing Werner, they would be wise to move the Egyptian to either of the wings and let the German international take over the striker role.

"Werner needs space for his sprints and passes that his teammates play into his feet," Eckner told Sport Bild.

"The role that Salah currently plays is tailor-made for Werner. Instead of remaining in the center, the striker in Klopp's system moves a lot and often finds himself on the wings," he added.

Meanwhile, Eckner doesn't exactly see Werner as an ideal signing for Bayern München.

"His profile doesn't really fit Bayern's playing style," Eckner says.

According to the tactics expert, Werner lacks the quality in one-on-one situations that is required to play on the wing. And he wouldn't be a great fit for the striker position either as he doesn't have the required physicality and ability to lay off the ball.

However, Werner's quick feet could give new impulses to a Bayern side that have often looked unimaginative this season.

Generally, Eckner argues, Werner wouldn't fit into a team that rely too much on possession.

"In static situations against compact defences that teams such as Barcelona, Manchester City and PSG frequently face, Werner is rarely effective," he says.
