Gladbach lead race for Manchester City youngster

Borussia Mönchengladbach are considered favourites to sign Manchester City youngster Rabbi Matondo who has also drawn interest from Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Everton and Southampton.
Manchester City starlet Rabbi Matondo has caught interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Everton and Southampton, Sport Bild reports.

According to the German tabloid, Gladbach are currently considered favourites to land Matondo who would cost up to €10 million. Reportedly, the Bundesliga side have sent scouts to take a look at the highly-rated 18-year-old winger several times.

Matondo has set his sights on leaving 'The Citizens' as he doesn't currently see any prospect of being offered first team football at Etihad Stadium. Therefore, he has rejected an offer to extend his contract which runs until 2020.

The Welsh winger has made 11 appearances in the reserve league this season with six goals and four assists to his name.

Apparently, 'Die Fohlen' see Matondo as a potential replacement for Thorgan Hazard. The Belgium international, who is under contract until 2020, has been linked heavily with Borussia Dortmund in particular and is likely to leave this summer, but Gladbach are still hoping he will stay.

"I haven't given up on him yet. But if Thorgan rejects a contract extension, it wouldn't make any sense for him to stay for another year," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told Sport Bild.
