Tedesco: Rudy wore a backpack of pressure when he joined from Bayern

Schalke 04 coach Domenico Tedesco has defended the under-fire Sebastian Rudy who has struggled to live up to the expectations since joining from Bayern München.
Sebastian Rudy has struggled to make the desired impact since he joined Schalke 04 from Bayern München in a €16 million deal last summer and has thus faced a lot of criticism during the season.

Now, Rudy's defended by Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco who feels it may have been hard for the 28-year-old to cope with the backpack of pressure and huge expectations that he automatically wore when he joined Schalke from Bayern.

"It hasn't been easy for 'Basti' here from the beginning as he joined when the pre-season was over. We've said again and again that we don't want to put a huge backpack on him. You automatically wear this backpack when you come from Bayern München, when you're playing for the national team and you join Schalke 04. It's our job to speed up these proceedings," Tedesco told Eurosport.

Rudy has made 14 appearances for Schalke so far.
