Confirmed: Schalke sign Rabbi Matondo from Manchester City

Schalke 04 have announced the signing of Rabbi Matondo who joins the club from Manchester City.
Schalke 04 have clinched the signing of Rabbi Matondo from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee, the club have announced.

The 18-year-old winger has signed a contract until the summer of 2023 and will wear number 14 on his back.

"I already knew something about Schalke 04 before the offer: Mesut Özil, Ivan Rakitic and Leroy Sané all took important steps in their careers here," Rabbi Matondo said, as quoted on the club's website.

"Additionally, there were very good talks with the coach, and my new teammates only had good things to say. The Bundesliga is a great league. Schalke 04 is the right choice for my footballing future, and I'm looking forward to being part of the club and its plans for the future," he added.

Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel said:

"We're happy that, in the past few weeks, we've been able to convince Rabbi in peace and without much publicity that joining us is the right decision for him."

According to Kicker, Schalke pay €9 million for Matondo after agreeing a deal with Manchester City that includes a €50 million repurchase option.
