Atlético Madrid's Lucas Hernandez was heavily linked with a move to Bayern München in January, but he ultimately stayed in the Spanish capital - for now at least.
Speaking to AS, the French international confirms that he was approached by another club in January, but Atlético didn't want to let him go.
Hernandez is now set to discuss his future with Atlético before the end of the season - and he says the club will respect his decision.
"I know that the intention of the Atletico bosses is that we agree to extend my contract. But they will respect my future decision. It's clear that they will not negotiate below my release clause, because they want me to stay at Atlético for many more years," Hernandez said.
"It's true that I had an important offer to sign for another team in the past winter transfer market, and the first thing I did was to tell the club."
"From the first moment, I was told that it wasn't an option that they would consider. The truth is that they were very understanding of the situation, and we agreed to evaluate everything before the end of the season," the French international explained.
Bayern could take advantage of a €80 million exit clause in Hernandez's contract if the 22-year-old decides he wants to make the move to Germany.
