Wolfsburg are fighting to keep Koen Casteels

VfL Wolfsburg have offered a new contract to Koen Casteels who is being 'watched intensively' by several other clubs, according to the keeper's agent.
VfL Wolfsburg sporting director Jörg Schmadtke says the club have offered Koen Casteels a new contract.

'Die Wölfe' are eager to keep the goalkeeper whose current deal runs until 2021.

"It would of course be important for us if Casteels decides to stay with us. We are in talks, and we have offered him a contract extension. Now, he'll talk to his agent and then we'll see. There's no deadline," Schmadtke told Bild and added:

"He's our undisputed number one and has played an almost flawless season. Of course he's important. Currently, he's perhaps the best goalkeeper in the Bundesliga. In any case, he belongs to the top five."

Casteels' agent, Nico Vaesen, recently said that the 26-year-old has drawn interest from a lot of clubs.

"We'll have a calm look at what's on the table in the summer," Vaesen told Kicker last week.

"We know some clubs are watching him intensively - that's normal," he continued.

Wolfsburg paid €1,5 million to sign Casteels from Hoffenheim in January 2015.
