Kovac wants Bayern to commit more tactical fouls

Bayern München coach Niko Kovac has urged his players to commit tactical fouls if that's what's needed to avoid conceding a goal.
Bayern München have committed 160 fouls in the league this season - fewer than any other Bundesliga side. However, judging by recent comments from Bayern coach Niko Kovac, it seems likely that we'll see an increase in fouls from the Bavarians in the future.

Niko Kovac's troops have conceded a number of counter-attack goals this season and was once again hit on the counter in Saturday's 3-1 win over Schalke 04 as Ahmed Kutucu was played in behind the Bavarian defence to score.

"You need to commit a tactical foul if you can't conquer the ball," the Bayern coach said in an interview with Sky in the wake of the game.

Bayern right-back Joshua Kimmich explains the team always aim to take the ball cleanly, but says he'll listen to Kovac.

"It's always our aim to prevent counter-attacks in a fair way. If this is not possible, we might have to commit a foul - if the coach says so," Kimmich told Bild.

Kovac's team have conceded a total of 24 goals in 21 Bundesliga games this season.
