Stuttgart dismiss Reschke and replace him with Hitzlsperger

VfB Stuttgart have parted company with sporting director Michael Reschke. Thomas Hitzlsperger has been hired as the club's new head of sport.
VfB Stuttgart have relieved Michael Reschke of his duties as sporting director with immediate effect, the club have announced.

"Due to the negative sporting development in recent months, I understand the decision of the supervisory board, even if I would have liked to continue working for VfB Stuttgart. I still believe in the potential of the team. But the fact is that the sum of my decisions has not let to the desired and expected result," Reschke said, as quoted by the club.

Reschke will be replaced by the former Stuttgart player Thomas Hitzlsperger who has been appointed as the club's new head of sport.

"In my new role as head of sport, I will do my utmost to avoid relegation and at the same time set the course for a successful future with a strong team. I'd like to thank our president and the supervisory board for the trust placed in me, and I look forward to this great task," Hitzlsperger said.

Reschke has worked as the sporting director of VfB Stuttgart since August 2017.
