Hitzfeld: You shouldn't question Lewandowski

Ottmar Hitzfeld has backed Robert Lewandowski after the striker was criticized by Dietmar Hamann.
Former German international Dietmar Hamann recently criticized Robert Lewandowski and said the striker is 'turning into a problem for Bayern München'.

Lewandowski, who has since responded to the criticism by calling Hamann's statements 'plan-out stupid', is now backed by former Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

"I find the criticism exaggerated, because Lewandowski is an important component in Bayern's playing style," Hitzfeld told FOCUS and went on:

"It hasn't always gone so well this season, but that's part of the development of a player."

"There are always periods of weakness. Even Gerd Müller played a couple of games without scoring. That's why you shouldn't question Lewandowski," Hitzfeld said.

Lewandowski has netted 25 times in 29 appearances for the Bavarians this season.
