Hertha BSC booked their place in the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Hamburger SV at the Olympiastadion on Wednesday night.

Hertha opened the scoring through Fabian Reese after 21 minutes, but HSV turned the game around and led 2-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Immanuel Pherai and Laszlo Benes.

The lead held until the 90th minute when Reese grabbed his second of the night to send the game into extra time.

Ransford-Yeboah Königsdorffer's goal in the 102nd minute put HSV back in front, but just as in normal time, Hertha found a late equaliser, this time through Jonjoe Kenny, to send the game to penalties.

Hertha went on to draw the longest straw, with Reese scoring the decisive penalty after Königsdorffer missed HSV's fourth kick.
