DFB confirms three-match ban for Bjelica
The German FA swiftly handed 1. FC Union Berlin trainer Nenad Bjelica a three-match ban following his scuffle with FC Bayern München attacker Leroy Sané last night.
The DFB's disciplinary arm reacted quickly following an incident in last night's Union Berlin-FC Bayern München match that saw Union trainer Nenad Bjelica slap Bayern attacker Leroy Sané. Bjelica will be forbidden from leading his team on the touchline for three matches. After missing upcoming league fixtures against Darmstadt, Leipzig, and Mainz, Bjelica will be eligible to return on February 10th for a home match against Wolfsburg.
Ejected from last night's proceedings on a straight red, Bjelica has commented on the incident. The FCU trainer - in charge for just eight matches since die Eisernen parted company with long-time trainer Urs Fischer - has claimed he was provoked. Some German editorials are already calling for the Köpenickers to sack him. Union are in 15th-place in the Bundesliga table on 14 points, three points about the relegation playoff place.
