Bundesliga team of the week – matchday 23

There are four SC Freiburg players in our Bundesliga team of the week after Christian Streich's troops thrashed Augsburg 5-1.

Matchday 23 – Bundesliga team of the week (3-1-3-1-2):


Goalkeeper: Koen Casteels, VfL Wolfsburg
Gladbach created a lot of chances against Wolfsburg, but didn't manage to put the ball past Koen Casteels who had a great game.

Centre-back: John Anthony Brooks, VfL Wolfsburg
Positioned himself very well and was always alert. Touched the ball 81 times - more than any of Wolfsburg player - and made an assist.

Centre-back: Philipp Lienhart, SC Freiburg
The young defender was rock solid in his side's 5-1 win over Augsburg. Won 88 percent of his duels and did well to bring the ball forward in the build-up play.

Centre-back: Dan-Axel Zagadou, Borussia Dortmund (2)
Impressed against Leverkusen. The big defender was rock solid defensively and also scored a goal.

Defensive midfielder: Javi Martinez, Bayern München
Aater his great performance against Liverpool, Martinez impressed once again in the 1-0 win over Hertha. Won a lot of duels, controlled the game in midfield and also scored Bayern's winner.


Right midfielder: Janik Haberer, SC Freiburg
Set up two goals and was one of many Freiburg players who had a great game in the 5-1 win over Augsburg.

Central midfielder: Danny Latza, Mainz
Never stopped running in Mainz's 3-0 win over Schalke 04 in which he also made an assist.

Left midfielder: Vincenzo Grifo, SC Freiburg (3)
Grifo is starting to look like his former self after joining Freiburg on loan from Hoffenheim in January. In his side's 5-1 win over Augsburg, the 25-year-old scored a great free kick goal and made an assist.

Offensive midfielder: Mario Götze, Borussia Dortmund (2)
Götze scored the winning goal against Bayer Leverkusen and worked extremely hard. Made a total of 85 sprints - more than any other player - and took part in 31 duels.

Striker: Karim Onisiwo, Mainz 05
Onisiwo tore Schalke 04 apart as he bagged his first Bundesliga brace in his side's 3-0 win.

Striker: Nils Petersen, SC Freiburg
The clinical striker scored two times - including the opening goal - in his team's 5-1 win over FC Augsburg.
