'Javi Martinez is one of the best Bayern transfers in the last 10 years'

Javi Martinez must play if Bayern München want to achieve anything in the Champions League, says Christian Ziege.
Former Bayern München and Liverpool player Christian Ziege has hailed Javi Martinez's importance for the Bavarians ahead of Wednesday's Champions League round of 16 game between his two former clubs.

Bayern didn't concede in the first leg at Anfield, which ended 0-0, and Ziege believes Martinez was highly responsible for that.

"The key to the improved defensive performance was the inclusion of Javi Martinez as a number six - a huge step forward," Ziege said in an interview with Sportbuzzer and continued:

"In general, I think that Martinez is one of the best Bayern transfers in the last 10 years. If Bayern want to achieve anything in the Champions League, Martinez must play."

Bayern paid €40 million to sign Javi Martinez, 30, from Athletic Club in 2012.
