Leverkusen boss: 'If Julian Brandt leaves, it will be for an absolute top club'

Bayer Leverkusen boss Rudi Völler backs Julian Brandt to join one of the biggest clubs in Europe if he leaves at some point.
Bayer Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Völler trusts Julian Brandt to join 'an absolute top club in Europe' if he ever leaves BayArena.

The German international has been linked with clubs such as Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.

But based on conversations with Brandt and the midfielder's father, who is also his agent, Völler feels the 22-year-old could stay beyond the summer.

"Top clubs have showed an interest in him for years. I think that if he ever leaves, it's going to be for an absolute top club in Europe. It can happen anytime, but we have good arguments to keep him at the moment," Völler told Sport Bild.

"Based on many conversations with Julian and his father, I know that he feels very comfortable here. He's very pleased with the team, the coach and his new role in the centre. For him as a player, it's very important how he feels."

"His friendship with Kai Havertz also plays a role in regard to this. They understand each other really well, and they're obviously important for the team together. We're doing everything we can to ensure that they will delight the people here in Leverkusen next season as well," Völler explained.

Brandt's deal with Leverkusen runs until 2021. According to Bild, he has a release clause of €25 million in his contract.
