Germany began their European Championship qualifying campaign with a 3-2 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam tonight.

'Die Mannschaft', who lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry up top, were off to a good start as Leroy Sané gave the guests the lead after 15 minutes. Nico Schulz powered forward on the left and sent the ball across to the Manchester City star who clinically made it 1-0.

Ryan Babel could have equalised on two occasions midway through the first half, but he wasn't able to send the ball past Manuel Neuer.

Instead, Serge Gnabry added to Germany's lead after 34 minutes after a wonderful solo effort as he smashed the ball into the net from longe range.

The hosts got a goal back shortly after the break as Matthijs de Ligt headed the ball past Neuer following a corner.

With 63 minutes on the clock, Memphis Depay powered a shot past the Bayern keeper inside the area to equalise, and the Netherlands then pushed for the winner.

As the second half progressed, it looked like it would all end with a draw, but 'Die Mannschaft' ended up snatching all three points thanks to a later winner from Nico Schulz who scored after Marco Reus laid a pass across goal to him.
