Eggestein said at the end of March that he has made a decision on his future, but nothing has been signed at this point, says Baumann.
"I'm aware of the tendency when it comes to 'Maxi'. But there are still some things to be discussed," the Werder boss told Deichstube.
"It can also be things that need to be clarified with other clubs," he added.
Eggestein has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, but is expected to sign a new contract with Werder.
According to reports, it's likely that the parties are currently negotiating about a potential exit clause in Eggestein's contract.
Maximilian Eggestein's younger brother Johannes recently signed a contract extension with Werder.
