According to Freiburg's Nils Petersen, who used to play for Werder himself, the 31-year-old would be wise to stay.
"The guy makes Werder so good - and the other way around. In my eyes, he would do himself the biggest favor by staying loyal to Bremen," Petersen told Deichstube and added:
"He knows what he has at Werder and that he's able to perform at his highest level there.
"He will not be able to get the status that he has worked for at Bremen at any other club," Petersen said.
Petersen and Freiburg face Werder Bremen away from home on Saturday.
