Max Kruse's contract with Werder is due to run out at the end of the season, and it's still unclear if he will sign an extension.
The 31-year-old has been linked with his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach among others, but he will definitely not return to Borussia-Park this summer, says Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl.
"Max is a fantastic footballer. He spent two years here. I know he will continue his path. He will sign another big contract, but not in Gladbach," Eberl said in an interview with ZDF.
Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt said on Saturday that he's optimistic that the 31-year-old will sign a new deal.
"I think he will come to me sometime in the next few weeks and say: 'Coach, let's move on together'," Kohfeldt told Sky.
Kruse, who played for Gladbach from 2013 to 2015, has scored 11 goals and made 14 assists in 32 appearances for Werder this season.
