Neuer sets sights on return against RB Leipzig

Manuel Neuer says he hopes to be back from injury when Bayern München face RB Leipzig on May 11.
Bayern München captain Manuel Neuer had to be substituted with a calf injury during his team's 4-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf on Matchday 29.

Speaking at a press conference today, the 33-year-old said he has now set sights on returning for Bayern's away game against RB Leipzig on May 11.

"It's difficult to say when I'll be back in goal. One can philosophize about me playing against Leipzig. Of course, I want to get fit and back between the posts as soon as possible. The Leipzig game is a realistic target," Neuer said.

Neuer missed most of the 2017/18 season due to a foot injury, so he knows how frustrating not being able to help out the team can be.

"An injury is always frustrating. One is sad and wants to help the team. Luckily, it wasn't the foot, but the calf this time. I knew right away that it was a muscle tear. I'm actually handling the situation pretty well," Neuer said.

Sven Ulreich is set to deputize for Neuer when Bayern clash with Werder Bremen at home on Saturday.
