David Wagner motivated to turn the situation around at Schalke 04
David Wagner has explained what has motivated him to take over the job as Schalke 04 coach.
Schalke 04 announced on Thursday evening that former Huddersfield manager David Wagner will take over the job as the club's head coach at the end of the season.
And Wagner, who worked as coach of Borussia Dortmund's reserves in the past, is looking forward to the task of getting Schalke back on track after a highly disappointing 2018/19 season.
"I know from personal experience just how strong Schalke 04 can be when the team, club, and the fans are all working together," Wagner said, as quoted by the club.
"Being able to immerse myself in this environment once more and being able to help turn the situation around were big factors in my decision to return to the Bundesliga," he added.
Schalke 04 head of sport Jochen Schneider believes Wagner is a perfect fit.
"We are delighted to have David Wagner join us. He perfectly fits in with our requirements; someone who coaches his team to take charge during games, to play with intensity and with a high tempo. He is also someone however, who can influence the team with his personality and improve players too," he said.
Schalke sacked Domenico Tedesco in March and subsequently appointed Huub Stevens as interim coach until the end of the season.
