BVB boss: We want to compete for the championship title again next season

Borussia Dortmund want to compete for the Bundesliga title again next season, says club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke.

After an intriguing end to the 2018/19 season that saw BVB end up two points behind Bayern München at the top of the table, the Dortmund CEO tells Ruhr Nachrichten:

"We'll go into the new season with the clear intention to try to compete for the German championship again. Not only because we feel we owe this to our fans, but because we believe that's our obligation. As always, we and Bayern are worlds apart, but if we don't try..."

"We had a similar situation in 2016, but lost three to players at the end of the season in Hummels, Mkhitaryan and Gündogan. Therefore, such an offensive formulation of new goals wasn't appropiate at the time. Now, Christian Pulisic is the only top player we'll lose. And we were only two points behind. What else should we say?"

Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga in both 2011 and 2012 before Bayern began their streak of seven consecutive championship titles.
