Report: Schalke want two new defenders

The new Schalke 04 coach, David Wagner, wants to strengthen the club's defence with two new signings.
Schalke 04 have targeted Hoffenheim's Stefan Posch, Hannover 96's Waldemar Anton, Huddersfield Town's Mathias 'Zanka' Jørgensen and Fortuna Düsseldorf's Kaan Ayhan as their new coach, David Wagner, plans to sign two defenders, Bild reports.

According to Bild, Posch has no release clause in his contract with Hoffenheim, which runs until 2022, but the 22-year-old should be an affordable option for 'The Royal Blues' nevertheless.

The Austrian centre-back, who made a total of 17 Bundesliga appearances for Hoffenheim during the 2018/19 season, mostly sat on the bench towards the end of the campaign.

Waldemar Anton is expected to leave Hannover 96 following the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga and should be available for around €10 million.

'Zanka', 29, played regularly under David Wagner at Huddersfield, but the centre-back slipped down the pecking order after Jan Siewert took over the job as manager in January.

Finally, it would reportedly cost Schalke at least €4 million to bring back their former player Kaan Ayhan from Fortuna Düsseldorf.
