Mascarell fully expects to stay at Schalke

Omar Mascarell makes it clear he has no plans of leaving Schalke 04 this summer.
Omar Mascarell is confident that he will stay at Schalke 04 beyond the summer despite experiencing a difficult first season at Veltins-Arena after his €10 million move from Real Madrid last summer.

Asked if he's going to stay at Schalke, Mascarell told AS:

"Of course. There are always rumours, but I'm very happy and I know that the club have full confidence in me. By the end of the season I was playing in every game and performing well. I felt Schalke were another step forward in my career, and I'm still absolutely convinced of that; I'm at one of the biggest clubs in Europe."

The 26-year-old also admitted he struggled to get on with the now former Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco who was sacked in March.

But Mascarell feels his situation at the club improved vastly when Huub Stevens took over on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

"Initially, I struggled to win over the coach, and things didn't work out the way I'd hoped. But then a new coach took over and everything changed for me. We clicked; he made it clear from the start that I'd be important, and that was how it turned out. I played every game."

Mascarell made a total of 19 appearances for Schalke 04 during the 2018/19 season.
