Toprak wants to stay and fight for his place at Dortmund

Ömer Toprak says he's eager to stay and fight for his place at Borussia Dortmund.
Ömer Toprak is among the players who are considered likely to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The 29-year-old played just 14 games in the 2018/19 season, but he has no intentions of running away even though the imminent arrival of Mats Hummels from Bayern München will increase competition for places at the back even more.

"Mats Hummels is a world class player, but I want to fight for my chance. I think I've proved often enough over the past 10 years that I can fight," Toprak told Kicker.

Toprak also faces competition from Manuel Akanji, Abdou Diallo, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Leonardi Balerdi as well as the versatile Julian Weigl who was used as a central defender on a number of occasions last season.
