Matthäus hits out at Manuel Neuer: 'An absolute no go!'

Lothar Matthäus is far from impressed with the recent comments from Manuel Neuer's agent.
Lothar Matthäus has taken a swipe at Manuel Neuer over recent comments from the goalkeeper's agent, Thomas Kroth, about the transfer policy of Bayern München.

In a recent interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung (as per Goal.com), Kroth said that Bayern must improve their squad in order to keep up with clubs from England and match the ambitions of the 33-year-old Bayern captain.

"Manuel is success-oriented. My impression is that the gap to the top four English top teams is already serious and the Munich squad is currently not yet as competitive or set up to tackle Manuel's goals seriously," Kroth said.

His comments haven't gone down well with Matthäus. According to the former German international, Neuer should have talked to the Bayern bosses in private instead of voicing his concerns publicly via his agent.

"The way Manuel Neuer has handled this is an absolute no go. As the captain of FC Bayern, I approached the club myself if I had a problem with the transfer policy. The doors of the bosses are always open," Matthäus told Bild.

"I know his advisor, Thomas Kroth, and he isn't looking for publicity on his own. Manuel has certainly discussed this with him. My agents would never have made such public statements without my prior consent."

Neuer, 33, is under contract with Bayern until 2021.
