Nagelsmann hopes Forsberg will stay at RB Leipzig amid exit talks

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann is hopeful Emil Forsberg will stay.
Emil Forsberg's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, recently said his client will either sign a new deal or look for a new club. RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann hopes he will stay.

"Every coach would like to have him in his team and keep him - and that also goes for me," Nagelsmann told Bild and continued:

"I have already seen in training what kind of quality Emil has. He has an incredible sense for the whole pitch, and for me he's a structural player who helps others to perform better, because he plays very good passes and makes unpleasant runs.

"He is a very intelligent player who has a good feeling for game acceleration situations - both after winning the ball and out of possession," Nagelsmann said.

Cetinkaya claims that the 27-year-old considered taking the next step in his career last summer, but the club said they wanted to keep him and promised him a new contract if he stayed. But Forsberg still hasn't extended his deal which runs until 2022.

"Of course Emil is disappointed. He has the chance to take the next step. And now the people, who made promises to him last year, are not keeping them," Cetinkaya told Bild.

RB Leipzig want to keep Forsberg, but if 'Die Roten Bullen' are forced to sell the midfielder, they demand at least €35 million for him - and Cetinkaya isn't satisfied with that price tag.

"Now, they say that they have no money for Emil and an extension. Therefore, we wanted to talk about a new club with a reasonable transfer fee in question which was promised to us last summer. Suddenly, the club suggest they want €35-40 million. That's madness," he said.

Forsberg has played for RB Leipzig since 2015.
