Schalke 04 coach David Wagner has asked for patience as he prepares for his first season at Veltins-Arena.

Schalke 04 should be careful not to set too ambitious goals after their underwhelming 2018/19 season, says the club's new head coach, David Wagner.

Wagner, who has taken over the reins at Veltins-Arena this summer, is obviously eager to better the club's poor 14th-place finish, but feels the club should be careful not to aim too high in the upcoming season.

"We would be wise to look at where we've just come from. Schalke ended up 14th with beads of sweat on their forehead. We don't need to talk about the 4th or 5th place now. It's about learning from the previous season," Wagner said in an interview with Kicker.

The 47-year-old previously worked as the manager of Huddersfield Town from November 2015 until January 2019.
