Zieler took a huge pay cut to return to Hannover 96: 'There are other important factors'

Ron-Robert Zieler is happy to be back at Hannover 96 even though the move means he earns just half of what he did at Stuttgart.
When Ron-Robert Zieler left VfB Stuttgart to return to his former club Hannover 96, he took a substantial pay cut.

The 30-year-old earns just half of what he did at VfB Stuttgart, but he insists that's no problem for him.

"There are other important factors than the salary. And there is no need to exaggerate. I still make very good money. Of course there were much more lucrative options from a financial point of view. But I asked myself what I would like to achieve in my career and what will be important to me in the coming years," Zieler told Sport Bild and added:

"It's a privilege to play in a city where you feel at home. I want to live here after my career. I now have a four-year contract, and even if you never know what happens, I can imagine playing here until the end of my career. I feel safe here."

Zieler played for Hannover from 2010 until 2016 when he joined Leicester City. After spending one year in England, he joined Stuttgart in 2017.

Hannover begin their 2. Bundesliga campaign tonight when they face Zieler's now former club Stuttgart.
