Report: Frankfurt identify Michael Esser as an alternative to Kevin Trapp

Hannover 96's Michael Esser is being linked with a move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Eintracht Frankfurt have identified Hannover 96's Michael Esser as an alternative to Kevin Trapp, according to Bild.

Trapp spent last season on loan at Frankfurt who have expressed an interest in signing the Paris Saint-Germain keeper on a permanent deal this summer.

But so far, 'Die Adler' haven't been able to reach an agreement with PSG, whose sporting director, Leonardo, recently said that the French champions currently have no plans of selling Trapp.

Michael Esser, on the other hand, should be allowed to leave by Hannover 96. The 31-year-old spent the 2018/19 season as the club's first-choice keeper, but Ron-Robert Zieler has taken over the number-one position after returning to his former club from VfB Stuttgart.

Esser could now possibly join Frankfurt who are reportedly willing to pay €1 million and let Felix Wiedwald move the other way in order to acquire the services of the experienced goalkeeper.

At the moment, Frederik Rønnow is considered Frankfurt's first-choice option. The Danish keeper is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, which is expected to keep him out for at least another week, though.
