Borussia Dortmund celebrated a good start to the season as they beat Bayern München 2-0 and won the German Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park this evening.

BVB had to cope without Roman Bürki, Mats Hummels, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, who were all sidelined with injuries, but still managed to get the better of their rivals.

Bayern looked vulnerable in defence early on, with Marco Reus, Paco Alcacer and Raphael Guerreiro all coming close to scoring in the beginning of the first half.

But the Bavarians gradually took over the control and managed to put BVB under pressure as the first half progressed.

Then, shortly after the break, Paco Alcacer sent Dortmund ahead with a clinical finish from the edge of the area after he was neatly set up by Jadon Sancho.

And with 69 minutes on the clock, Sancho took full advantage of a counter-attack as he powered the ball past Manuel Neuer.

Although Bayern didn't manage to score, they produced a number of chances during the second half - particularly when the score was 1-0 - but Niko Kovac's troops lacked the necessary luck and ruthlessness to get the ball into the net.
