Fantasy Bundesliga tips: Defenders to consider for the 2019/20 season

Here are the defenders you should consider when picking your Fantasy Bundesliga team.
Budget options

After a strong pre-season, Philipp Lienhart has a good chance of starting alongside Dominique Heintz in Freiburg's central defence, and with their nice run of fixtures from the start of the season, he looks worth a punt with a price of just 5 million.

Werder Bremen's Marco Friedl is another fine low-budget option. The 21-year-old costs just 6 million and should start at left-back in Bremen's opener. Ömer Toprak, who is also priced at 6 million, is another good option from Werder.

Hertha's Lukas Klünter, who looks set to start at right-back, is available for just 7 million. The same goes for Robin Knoche who looks like a certain starter for a Wolfsburg team with great opening fixtures.

Mid-price options

After spells at Hoffenheim and Augsburg, Jonathan Schmid has returned to Freiburg where he's expected to start at right-back. The 29-year-old, who costs 9 million, is known as a good set-piece taker, who likes to come forward, so he seems like a solid pick, especially considering Freiburg's nice run of fixtures from the start of the season.

Another good option in this price range is Stefan Lainer (Gladbach, 10M). The energetic right-back has followed Marco Rose from Red Bull Salzburg to Mönchengladbach where he looks set to play a key role. During his time in Salzburg, Lainer scored 13 goals and made 34 assists in 171 appearances - not bad at all.

Finally, Wendell is worth considering. The left-back, who is priced at 10 million, looks set to start for Bayer Leverkusen at the expense of Daley Sinkgraven.

Premium options

Jerome Roussillon (Wolfsburg, 12M) had a really impressive first season in the Bundesliga and looks like a really solid pick with Wolfsburg's great fixtures from the start of the season.

Nico Schulz, who also costs 12 million, remains a great fantasy pick after his move from Hoffenheim to Dortmund.

If you're willing to pay a little more, you could bring in Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig, 14M). The 27-year-old took both set pieces and penalties for 'Die Roten Bullen' last season, racking up four goals and eight assists in 37 appearances.

Finally, there's Joshua Kimmich (Bayern München, 16M). The offensively-oriented right-back is the most expensive defender of the game for a reason, having scored two goals and made 19 assists for Bayern in all competitions last season.
