Mainz boss Rouven Schröder warns of difficult striker search

Mainz still hope to bring in a striker before the German transfer window slams shut - but finding the right candidate isn't easy, says club boss Rouven Schröder.
With both Jean-Philippe Mateta and Dong-won Ji ruled out with long-term injuries, Mainz are hoping to bring in a new striker before the German transfer window closes on September 2.

But finding the right candidate isn't easy, admits Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder, who is well aware that 'Die Nullfünfer' 'are not at the beginning of the food chain'.

"If we sign someone, it will be a player who has already proven himself, who knows the league and who has played internationally," Schröder told Allgemeine Zeitung.

Schröder further said that Mainz will be looking to sign a striker on a free transfer or on loan and that 'he could be 23, 27, 30 or older.'

According to Kicker, Mainz are close to the signing of Adam Szalai on a free transfer from Hoffenheim.
