Timo Werner was heavily linked with a move away from RB Leipzig during the summer before he put rumors about his future to rest by signing a contract extension until 2023.
But before deciding for RB Leipzig, Werner was in talks with other clubs, the striker has revealed in an interview with Die Welt.
"There was contact with other clubs. But I don't want to say exactly who I was in contact with. There's no point in talking about other clubs retrospectively," Werner said.
Ultimately, the 23-year-old decided to stay put, and makes it clear that there isn't any shame in that.
"Signing a contract with a good, ambitious and attractive German club like RB Leipzig doesn't make me a coward," Werner told Die Welt.
Werner has started out the 2019/20 season season in red-hot form, scoring five goals in his first three Bundesliga appearances.
