Real Madrid have been unsuccessfully trying to sign Robert Lewandowski for years, says club president Florentino Perez.
According to Perez, Bayern made the transfer impossible because they refused to let the Polish international leave.
"There are players who don't get sold. We went for Lewandowski for several years and nothing happened because he has no clause and they [Bayern Munich] won't sell him," Perez said, according to Marca.
Lewandowski's agent openly said his client wanted to leave at the end of May last year, but Bayern didn't allow him to go.
Since then, the 31-year-old has committed his future to Bayern and recently signed a new deal until 2023.
