World Cup winner Kevin Grosskreutz signs with third division side

Kevin Grosskreutz, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, has joined German third division side KFC Uerdingen.
The former Borussia Dortmund player Kevin Grosskreutz, who was a part of the German team that won the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, has signed a three-year deal with KFC Uerdingen who plays in the German 3. Liga.

The 29-year-old will make the move from 2. Bundesliga side Darmstadt for an undisclosed transfer fee, the club have announced.

"We are delighted that we have made this transfer. It's not as much about the name as the quality on the pitch that Grosskreutz will bring. He will certainly be able to boost the team enormously and bring a lot of experience with him that will benefit us," KFC Uerdingen director Nikolas Weinhart tells the club's website.

After making 236 appearances for Dortmund, Grosskreutz signed a contract with Galatasaray before the 2015/16 season. However, Galatasaray failed to submit the relevant documentation in time before the transfer window closed, and therefore Grosskreutz wasn't eligible to play any matches before the 1st of January 2016.

He never made an appearance for the Turkish side and joined Stuttgart on the 6th of January 2016. But in March 2017, his contract with Stuttgart was mutually terminated after he got into a bar fight.

In the summer of 2017, Grosskreutz signed with Darmstadt. Now, after making 27 appearances for Darmstadt during the 2017/18 season, he has joined KFC Uerdingen.
