Dayot Upamecano to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season?

RB Leipzig would like Dayot Upamecano to extend his contract beyond 2021, but might have to let him go in the summer.
Dayot Upamecano is looking increasingly likely to depart RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020, according to Kicker.

'Die Roten Bullen' are willing to offer the centre-back a significant salary increase if he signs a contract extension.

Upamecano's current deal, which runs until 2021, will see his buyout clause drop to €80 million in the summer.

If the French defender refuses to sign a new deal, the club will probably let him go next summer - and maybe even for a fee below the release clause - to cash in on him.

"We know that we have one of the best centre-backs in Europe in 'Upa'. Of course we would like him to extend his contract," RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche told Bild and added:

"We are not a selling club. But of course we have to sell players sometimes and not just buy them.

"It could be that we will have to think about a few players next summer."

Upamecano joined RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2017. He was linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
