Report: José Mourinho a candidate to replace Lucien Favre at Dortmund

José Mourinho is reportedly seen as a potential successor for Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund would consider bringing in José Mourinho as head coach if Lucien Favre fails to live up to the expectations, according to Sport Bild.

Mourinho is seen as a candidate for the job if Favre fails to bring Dortmund back on track, although the BVB bosses would prefer to avoid a change of coach in the middle of the season, as per the report.

The Portuguese coach has previously said he believes the Bundesliga is 'really interesting' and that he 'admires the work of BVB'.

Favre's troops took at vital step forward as they climbed to fourth place in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win over Gladbach on Sunday after a bumpy start to the season that has seen Dortmund drop a number of points.

The 61-year-old will now have to continue proving himself in the coming weeks, with important games against Inter, Schalke 04, Gladbach, Wolfsburg and Bayern München coming up.

Favre was appointed Dortmund coach in the summer of 2018. His contract runs until 2021.
