Ozan Kabak ready to take his chance at Schalke

Ozan Kabak hopes for more chances at Schalke 04 now that Benjamin Stambouli is out with an injury.
Ozan Kabak was handed his first start for Schalke 04 in their 3-2 over Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday - and he's ready for more time on the pitch.

After his summer move from Stuttgart, Kabak initially had to settle for a place on the bench while Salif Sané and Benjamin Stambouli have been Schalke 04 coach David Wagner's preferred duo in central defence.

But with Benjamin Stambouli now ruled out for a number of weeks with an injury, Kabak wants to seize his chance and nail down a starting berth.

"I'm happy with my performance," Kabak told Kicker after Tuesday's win.

"'Benji' [Stambouli] did very well in the last games. I'm sorry for him. But injuries are part of football - and now it's my time," he added.

Asked if he believes he could start once more when Schalke face Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, Kabak said:

"Yes, maybe. I can now show the coach what I've got."
