The central midfielder believes 'The Green-Whites' are in a 'dangerous' situation after having taken just 11 points from their first 12 league games this season.
"It's not Matchday 30 yet, but the situation is dangerous, and we have to be careful. We need to get some points fast, so we can get out of that area," Eggestein told Bild ahead of Sunday's game against Wolfsburg.
The 22-year-old admits that he hasn't been able to live up to his excellent 2018/19 season so far.
"At the moment, I assume that I will also play in Wolfsburg. I certainly haven't reached my top level yet this season, but it hasn't been all bad. That's part of it. Things can't always go upwards. You learn from that," he said.
Eggestein has made 13 appearances this season, making two assists.
