Borussia Mönchengladbach remain top of the Bundesliga after a 2-1 victory over Bayern München at Borussia-Park.

The guests were very dominant in the first half and deservedly went ahead through Ivan Perisic shortly after the break.

But Gladbach fought their way back into the game and equalised when Bensebaini headed the ball into the back of the net after a corner with an hour played.

It looked like the two teams would share the spoils until the home side were awarded a penalty in injury time when Javi Martinez received his second yellow card for bringing down Marcus Thuram in the box.

Bensebaini stepped up to take the penalty and slotted the ball past Manuel Neuer to secure the win for Marco Rose's troops.

'Die Fohlen' are one point clear of second-placed RB Leipzig who beat Hoffenheim 3-1 at home. Borussia Dortmund move to third place with a crushing 5-0 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf that saw Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho score two goals each.

Meanwhile, Bayern slip down to sixth place, one point behind Freiburg, who beat Wolfsburg 1-0, and Schalke 04, who face Bayer Leverkusen tonight.
