Rummenigge explains what Bayern are looking for in a coach

"The way we play football now is a style that not only pleases us, but also the fans," says Bayern München chief Karl Heinz Rummenigge.
Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has talked about the qualities the German champions are looking for in a coach.

Hansi Flick has been in charge since Niko Kovac was dismissed in November, and Rummenigge is pleased with his work so far.

"It's all about finding the best solution for FC Bayern. The way we play football now is a style that not only pleases us, but also the fans," Rummenigge said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:

"It's important not only to look at the bare result, but at the quality of play as well. You have to be able to see the handwriting of a coach. And that is the case here again."

Asked if Bayern's next coach must be able to speak German, Rummenigge responded:

"Of course that's an advantage. We've had top coaches like van Gaal, Heynckes and Guardiola here in the past 10 years, and they all left their footprints. Hansi is a different type, but I think he does a good job. What we need is a coach who stands for possession football, just like van Gaal, Heynckes or Pep Guardiola. That's Bayern München's philosophy."

Rummenigge has previously refused to rule out that Flick could stay on as coach until the summer at least.

"We have planned to sit down together after the last game before the winter break. I won't rule out that Flick could stay in charge until the summer," the Bayern chief said last week.

Ajax coach Erik ten Hag is said to be Bayern's preferred long-term candidate, but the 49-year-old has made it clear that he will not be leaving the Dutch champions in the middle of the season.
