Omar Mascarell takes over as Schalke captain

Alex Nübel has stepped down from his role as Schalke captain.
Omar Mascarell has been named new Schalke 04 captain, head coach David Wagner has announced.

The defensive midfielder takes over the responsibility from Alex Nübel following the announcement that the goalkeeper will be joining Bayern München at the end of this season.

"We have mutually agreed that Alex will step down from his role as captain," Wagner said, as quoted by the club.

Mascarell, 26, has made 19 appearances for Schalke this season.
