RB Leipzig should currently be considered favorites to win the Bundesliga this season, argues Lothar Matthäus.

'Die Roten Bullen' sit top of the table ahead of the second half of the season, and Matthäus believes they have a good chance of clinching their first Bundesliga title.

"At the moment, they are the top favorite for the championship," Matthäus wrote in a column for Sky.

"Timo Werner and Julian Nagelsmann are obviously the two most prominent faces of this team and this club. Everything has fitted together so far. Werner is better than ever before, and since his future has been clarified, he has been playing as light-heartedly as rarely before. His goal record is fantastic. Julian Nagelsmann has even more opportunities in Leipzig than in Hoffenheim, and as expected, he's showing what a top coach he is.

"However, Leipzig are struggling with injury problems, especially in central defence. They have to be a bit more concentrated and stable. But if they manage do as well as they did in the first half of the season or even better, they have every chance of finishing in first place at the end of the season," Matthäus stated.

RB Leipzig are two points clear of second-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach at the top of the table.
