Bayern president Herbert Hainer 'firmly convinced' that Manuel Neuer will sign a new deal

Bayern München chief Herbert Hainer is confident it will be possible to extend Manuel Neuer's contract.
Bayern München president Herbert Hainer says he remains 'firmly convinced' that Manuel Neuer will extend his contract with the German champions beyond 2021.

"He likes it very much in Munich, he's part of a great team, we all really appreciate him. We are working on [a contract extension], and I'm optimistic," Hainer said in an interview with Bild.

Speaking after Sunday's 0-0 draw with RB Leipzig, Neuer said he's ready to fight to keep his starting spot when Alexander Nübel arrives from Schalke 04 on a free transfer in the summer.

"My plan is to continue playing football for FC Bayern. From the summer, Alex Nübel will be there, and then we'll continue," Neuer told Sky.

It doesn't seem like the parties are close to agreeing on a new deal at this point, though.

"There's nothing to announce at the moment. We are concentrating on winning titles with FC Bayern," Neuer said.
