BVB boss: 'The decision to let Paco Alcacer go was easy'
Deciding to let Paco Alcacer leave was easy, says BVB chief Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke says deciding to sell Paco Alcacer to Villarreal in January was easy because the striker was dissatisfied.
The 26-year-old grew increasingly unhappy at Signal Iduna Park as he struggled for playing time while Erling Haaland's arrival from RB Salzburg in January increased competition for places even further.
"We have other players who can play the role of Paco. But we never had a guy like Erling [Haaland] before. The decision to let Paco go was easy. Strikers, who don't play, quickly get dissatisfied," Watzke said in an interview with Goal and DAZN.
"He would probably have missed his big goal of playing at the European Championship in 2020 if he had stayed. The financial aspect wasn't decisive for us. We would have been able to get the money in the summer as well," he added.
Villarreal paid €23 million to sign Alcacer from Dortmund.
