Lothar Matthäus: Erling Haaland should stay in Dortmund until 2021 at least

Erling Haaland shouldn't be thinking about leaving Borussia Dortmund until the summer of 2021, says Lothar Matthäus.
Erling Haaland would be wise to stay at Borussia Dortmund the end of the 2020/21 season at least, argues Lothar Matthäus.

"If I were him, I would stay in Dortmund for at least one and a half years in order to stabilize myself at this level. After all, it would be meaningless to think about a transfer every six months. But from 2021, Dortmund should look for a successor," Matthäus told Sport Bild before making it clear just how much he rates the young striker:

"He can reach the level of Lewandowski and become the best number nine in the world. His genes are good, and his environment has built up his career in a clear and professional fashion," the former German international said.

Haaland, 19, has scored 12 goals in nine games for Dortmund following his switch from RB Salzburg in January. His contract expires in 2024.
