Augsburg part company with Martin Schmidt

Augsburg have parted ways with Martin Schmidt.
Martin Schmidt has been relieved of his duties as Augsburg coach with immediate effect, the club have announced.

The decision has been made after Augsburg have taken just four points from their last nine Bundesliga games.

"It wasn't an easy decision for us to make, however after taking just four points from our last nine games, we decided we needed a managerial change. There will always be tough periods in a season, which you need to overcome. At the moment though, we are in danger of not reaching our goal of survival, which is why we came to this decision," said Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter in a statement.

Martin Schmidt said:

"I have accepted the club's decision and would like to thank them for the chance that I was given here. I hope I have been able to leave my mark here, even if we weren't very successful recently. The club is always bigger than individuals, so I'd like to wish FCA all the best for the future and hope they can turn things around soon."

Augsburg sit 14th in the Bundesliga table.
